"Perhaps the biggest quality of Adélia Pedrosa inhabits in the fact, apparently simple, of being a voice of the people, with all characteristics that define a pure and sweet soul with a charming sincerity. It comes from her a delicious scent of innocence that enchants, of candour that touches, of goodness that captives. The soul of the people is thus. The voice of Adélia also."
Fernando Peres - portuguese poet and journalist, in the record "Anda Ver Lisboa" ("Come to See Lisbon"), recorded in Portugal by EMI/Valentim de Carvalho.
"...one of the voices that deeper signs can leave in our sensitivity is, without a doubt, of Adélia Pedrosa, woman-girl who the Portuguese of Brazil had chosen as vedeta. Popular voice that to the simple and gracious melodies has given all the interpretative heat. ..in this World and in this Time we can still hear the overwhelming cry of a poet - Love is urgent - what, perhaps, gives more haste to hear Adélia. "
Fernando Peres, in the compact "Fados", recorded for the FF/Portugal
"My sincere congratulations for this wonderful work to spreading Adélia´s name. I am very happy because it´s a name that deserves the highest relief of the Portuguese artistic scene. Adélia Pedrosa lives and will live forever inside of our hearts."
Manuel Marques, great guitarr master and friend
"This extradordinary work is ,without a doubt, a deserved act of justice for the patriotic career, with so much quality, developed with sacrifices and love in favor of Portugal, its communities and its values, by this great artist and human figure. Congratulations."
Antonio de Almeida e Silva
President of the Council of the Portuguese-Brazilian Community of São Paulo, and friend

Hi dear friends. This week we have a very special day. June 10th is the day of Portugal and Camões. Our respect and admiration for this brave and noble people. And to celebrate we have many news. The first one is a homage that will be made to Adélia on Switzerland by the radio show "Fado, o Jardim das Palavras" The show is commanded by the fadista Mariana Correia and it will happen next Monday, June 9th, begining at 4:00pm Brazilian time and 9:00pm Switzerland time. You can hear at: http://www.arremesso.com/Directo.html
The second one is that we have a new blog! Exactly. An old dream of Adélia was, in some way, to congregate the fadistas that live in the foreigner as she. Joined by the homesickness and the Fado, but spread around the world. Adélia always revealed the desire to see an interchange between these artists. However her voice, always so strong, did not find the echo necessary to make this happen. So we hade the idea to create a space to join all those singers, to show who they are to the world and mainly to their native land and their people, Portugal. A space to homage their courage and devotion and to thank for their art. And so, Mundo Fado was born - http://mundofado.blogspot.com/
We do not have the pretension of being a great site, but it is being made with the same affection and devotion that was made the blog of Adélia. We will need much help, information, and count on the support of all of you. It will be a work for many hands. The theme of the blog is the immigrants and the Fado. The brave immigrants, who have in Fado the moment of linking with the motherland that they left. We hope you like it and help us to construct it. And, to finish our commemorations for the day of Portugal, this week the video, chosen specially for the theme of the new blog, is “Eterna Canção” by V.Rocha and Alfredo Marceneiro.
We want also to reveal our affection and gratitude to this great fadista that lives in Switzerland, Mariana Correia. To know Mariana Correia was one of the great joys that the Internet provided to us. Bellow we have a player where you will be able to be delighted with the magnificent voice of this fadista, that beyond everything is a lovely person. She sings “Ilha da Loucura” by Jorge Fernando, "live”. Kisses dear Mariana! So, many kisses, happy day of Portugal, good luck to the Portuguese team and do not lose the radio show next Monday. Bye!
Adélia Pedrosa, is considered to be one of Brazil's most expressive and versatile interpretor of Portuguese music. She was born at the beach of Pedrógão in the district of Leiria, Portugal. Orphaned of her father at the age of seven, Adélia went to Brazil when she was twelve, with her adoptive grandparents, leaving behind her mother, who joined them in Brazil seven years later. Her first auditorium were the fishermen that lived in the colony where she lived in Brazil. Daughter of a fisherman, Adélia sings about the nostalgia of the sea. She was also known as Maria do Mar (Mary of the Sea) and in dedication three fados were especially composed for her -- "Sou Filha de Pescador" ("I am Daughter of a Fisherman"), by Armando Silva, "Maria do Mar" (Mary of the Sea) by José Maria Rodrigues, and "Garota da Beira Mar" ("Girl from the Seaside") by Joaquim Pimentel. Adélia initiated her victorious career, on a radio show called Programa dos Astros (Show of the Stars), at Vera Cruz Radio, Rio de Janeiro, directed by Joaquim Pimentel. Joaquim Pimentel was a big responsible for promoting Portuguese music in Brazil and who Adélia considered a father figure. Professionally, she made her first appearance at a restaurant called Fado, venue of the great fadista, Tony de Matos who was also in Rio de Janeiro at that time. Adélia soon started to perform all around the country, and through an invitation of the Buenos Aires Portuguese Club, made her first performances in Argentina, where she has returned 5 times to successfully tour many of its cities. Returning to Brazil, to give birth to her daughter, she lived there for two years without singing. She then received an invitation from the Portuguese Government, represented by Mr.Felner da Costa, who at that time was the Director of the Centre of Tourism of Portugal who asked Adélia to sing in her motherland. So, Adélia returned to Portugal, with Joaquim Pimentel, Maria Teresa Quintas and Maria José Vilar. These three singers who were all born in Portugal, had started their careers in Brazil and were highly respected and were known as "A Caravana da Saudade" (The Nostalgic* Caravan). In this first tour, Adélia recorded three albums , one also by Valetim de Carvalho, with the Ferrer Trindade Orchestra and with the best musicians of the time. She also has performed at "Marceneiro", a restaurant at Porto. On returning to Brazil, Adélia, together with Joaquim Pimentel and Terezinha Alves (also a singer and a great friend) became owners of the Adega Lisboa Antiga Restaurant, in São Paulo, and continued to perform around the country and on tv programs. She again returned to Portugal to perform at Sr.Vinho a restaurant owned by the fadista Maria da Fé, and also performed at Malhoa a restaurant owned by fadista Maria Armanda. Adélia also performed at the Casino of Espinho, Figueira da Foz, Póvoa and at Casino Estoril, all of which were considered great successes. Through her career, Adélia continued to recorded many albums, for Som Livre/Brazil, RCA, Valentim de Carvalho and FF/Portugal and others. In Brazil she was featured in many tv shows, and performed throughout Brazil and in Portugal and Argentina. She also recorded with the Segundo Galarza Orchestra, with songs composed by Manoel Paião and Eduardo Damas, for RCA/Portugal. Later through her career she was one of the owner's of two famous portuguese restaurants, Adega Lisboa Antiga and Abril em Portugal located in São Paulo. With courage and determinaton since the beginning of her career, and with Fado in her soul, this strong woman has received many prizes and different adjectives from the people and from the press, such as: “the younger and purest look of the Fado”,“little girl from Lisboa Antiga”, “great-small Adélia”, “little princess of Fado”, “trigueirinha (something like a girl tanned by the sun”, “eyes that laugh, mouth that sings and cries”, “small notable”, “true legend of Portuguese music”, among others, that demonstrate the immense charisma of this fadista. Today, Adélia lives in a small city close to São Paulo, far from the buzz of the metropolis. She continues to sing and enchant the public with her unique interpretation and her beautiful distinctive voice. ------------------------------------------ * there is no English translation for the word "saudade".The closest description would be the word 'longing'

I would like to ask everybody, specially the authors, to forgive me for the translations of the poems. I use to say that a translation of a poem is always a betrayal, but there is no other way to show the poems to other people that do not understand Portuguese. But names I do not use to translate. I hope you comprehend. I´ve tried to make the translations more closer to the real meaning that is possible. Thanks.
